The RETES partnership will gather in Heraklion, Crete, on 22–23 June 2026 to review progress, share updates from the pilot areas and coordinate the next steps of the project.
On 22–23 June 2026, RETES project partners will meet in Heraklion, Crete, for the next in-person project meeting. The meeting will bring together the European consortium to review the work carried out so far and continue coordinating the implementation of the project activities.
RETES – Resilience Enhancement in Tourism through Education and Skills – is funded by the Erasmus+ programme and focuses on strengthening resilience in the tourism sector through disaster prevention, emergency preparedness, skills development and cooperation between tourism stakeholders, vocational education and training providers and civil protection actors.
The Heraklion meeting will represent an important moment for the partnership, as partners will have the opportunity to discuss the progress achieved during the first months of the project. This includes the work developed in the pilot areas, stakeholder mapping activities, local engagement processes and the first insights gathered on how tourism destinations cooperate with civil protection systems to prevent and manage risks.
A key part of the meeting will be dedicated to analysing the results of the activities already carried out in the different pilot territories. These discussions will help the consortium identify common challenges, local specificities and opportunities for cooperation that can inform the next phases of the project.
The meeting will also allow partners to coordinate upcoming tasks, refine the work plan and ensure that project activities continue to move forward in a coherent and effective way. In-person meetings are especially valuable in European cooperation projects, as they make it possible to strengthen trust, improve communication and align expectations among all organisations involved.
Heraklion is also a particularly relevant location for this meeting, as Crete is home to one of the RETES pilot areas: Malevizi Municipality. In this area, project partners have already started local activities focused on tourism resilience, civil protection cooperation and preparedness for climate-related risks.
By bringing the consortium together in Crete, the meeting will offer a valuable opportunity to connect the broader European objectives of RETES with the concrete realities of one of its pilot territories. The exchange of experiences among partners will contribute to the development of future training resources, cooperation models and tools aimed at supporting more resilient tourism destinations.
The RETES partnership looks forward to sharing further updates from Heraklion and to continuing its work towards stronger cooperation between tourism and civil protection actors across Europe.
